Fever and chills

Illness caused by a flu virus can often present with a high fever¹ associated with chills.²

A fever is the body’s physiological response to viral or bacterial infection,³ and can help to differentiate an influenza episode from the common cold.^4-6

High fever is a common symptom of the flu¹

The presence of a fever may in fact be beneficial in helping to fight off a viral infection.³
Chills in the form of shivering may accompany a fever — the rapid muscle contraction and relaxation is an attempt to further warm the body.²
